Frugal Doings

{source: Pinterest}

Added $5.43to the change jar.

I rolled up an old blanket placed in front of the back door to keep cold air out.

I made breakfasts instead of buying cereal.

I made homemade flea repellent for the dogs. Bring a quart of water to a boil; turn off. Add a sliced lemon to water & let steep overnight. Strain and fill clean spray bottle with mixture. Spray dogs daily or as needed.

We didn't buy any fast food this week.

Used leftovers for hubby's lunch the next day.

I am monitoring the kids' shower usage. The girls can easily spend an hour in the shower and use up all the hot water in the process. Now they have 15 minutes and if they have to shave their legs, they must turn the water off while shaving.

I make sure to turn off all lights and electronics that are not in use, and remind the kids to do the same.

Changed the filter for the central heat/ac unit so it doesn't have to work so hard, thus using more energy.

Hubby needed sinus medicine. Stopped at the dollar store and paid only $2.73 for the medicine.

I turn off the heat for most of the day & turn it back on about an hour before hubby comes home from work.

Used green onions in the cheesy ranch dip recipe and put the ends in water in the window sill and they have regrown!

What frugal things have you done this week?

Hi Tracey, I am doing some of the same things- all this cooking at home sure makes for lots of dirty dishes, doesn't it?

I remember those days of teens in long showers, long phone calls, etc. Yes, 15 minutes is plenty long enough for a shower!

This is my first visit to your blog; I just stumbled across it.
Thanks for sharing the pink canning jars, I have never seen pink ones before!
I also look forward to trying your Cheesy Ranch Dip.

Oh you clever girl! I have green onions in the fridge and never thought to 'regrow them'. You can bet I'm going to try!

Love those pink canning jars! So the homemade flea recipe works? Our dogs sleep with us so it would have to work fast! We use frontline on them during the year to prevent fleas. Thanks for all the frugal suggestions. Cereal is expensive and love the idea of replanting the green onions. Take a picture of them. I'd love to see what they look like growing.
