Frugal Doings

I have been trying to be as frugal as possible in order to save as much as I can. Here are my frugal doings for last week:

The back door is terribly drafty. I have been using an old blanket rolled up against it to keep the cold out.

I save our food scraps in an old cool whip container and warm them up a tad and mix it into the dogs food so they get a treat. Plus, it stretches their food just a bit.

I do not like drinking plain water so I have purchased Crystal Light at BIG1F instead of buying soda.

I was able to rent 2 movies from Redbox for free using promo codes.

Downloaded several cookbooks for kindle for pc.

I save water in a pitcher while waiting for it to heat up to add to the dogs' water bowl.

Filled my car up with gas at $2.30/gal. instead of $3.15/gal. because I had $0.85/gal. in fuel perks. It only cost me $28.61 to fill up my tank. Husband was thrilled!

Remind the children to keep lights & gadgets turned off if not in use. I make sure to turn off the outside lights as soon as daylight breaks.

I have been turning the heat off during the day while Alfred is at work and wear a sweater. I turn it back on an hour before he comes home from work.

I have been wanting a nice jacket to wear when we go out. I found a soft black 100% leather jacket at the thrift store for $14.99!

I trimmed my daughter's hair.

How have you saved money this week?

We are doing much of the same. Keeping lights off and the heater off as much as we can. I like to throw scraps in the freezer that would be good in a pot of soup.

Hi Tracy,
I am doing some of the same things as you. Thankfully, we have plenty in the freezer and pantry and I hope to buy almost no groceries all month so I can use the grocery budget for car insurance. One of my biggest goals for 2013 is to increase our savings account so if I succeed, that will be a big difference.

yea on finding your nice coat at the thrift store.

I'm determined to make our money work harder for us this year. I just went over the budget and am prepared to make some cuts in many places. It will be hard...but somehow we're going to do it!

I think posts like this, where each of us lists what we're doing to save is very encouraging to all of us. It reminds us not only of areas where we might save, it also shows that many are in the same boat and sharing in the 'troubles' and that too is a huge help.
