My weekend plans did not go as planned. My baby girl had an accident which prevented my going out on Saturday night. Not that I am complaining, mind you. My kids come first.
My girl was staying the weekend an hour away with friends for a slumber/birthday party. Her finger was slammed in a door and it took the tip of her middle finger off, resulting to an emergency room visit and outpatient surgery with a bone specialist.
Kenzie was very calm and a real trooper for the most part. The thing she hated worst was getting shots to numb the finger and fearing she will now look like a freak.
She's had a tough week - diagnosed with bipolar disorder earlier in the week and then the accident last night.
So this week, as trying as it has been, I have found the silver lining in the clouds. I am thankful:
~ That Kenzie was not injured worse.
~ That we won't have huge medical bills because we have medical insurance to cover the expenses with my husband being deployed.
~ An excellent staff and care at the naval hospital.
~ Pain meds to help keep her comfortable.
~ That I was there with my girl when she was having the surgery, holding her hand and helping to keep her calm.
~ That I was as calm as I was during the whole thing. That in itself is a miracle!
Last night was a reminder to me that the unexpected can & does happen when we least expect it. I want to be even more mindful of the ones I love, grateful for each and every day, and live life to the fullest. We just never know when our time on this precious earth is up.
Hug those you love and tell them! Don't take anything for granted. Life is too short...
