A Change of Heart part 11

Thanksgiving Day had finally arrived. The sun was casting its golden spell across the frost-covered landscape. The weather had been unusually warm as of late, so the cooler weather was most welcome. It lent an air of festivity to the holiday.

Eliza, Tyler, and Jeremiah worked together in the kitchen preparing the Thanksgiving feast. They chatted cheerily and laughed while chopping vegetables, washing up dishes as they went along, and peeling potatoes. Dinner would be served around noon-time for the lovely holiday meal and companionship.

Eliza was a wonderful hostess and looked like an angel dressed in a charcoal gray sweater and skirt set which brought out the gray flecks in her blue eyes, warm tights, and gray suede boots. She wore a beautiful cameo necklace around her neck and had pulled her hair back in a chic chignon.

About a quarter to twelve, the doorbell rang. Their Thanksgiving guests were beginning to arrive! Eliza noticed Tyler was quite animated and full of good spirit as he took the guests' coats after a welcoming hug or handshake. Eliza hardly recognized him. It was as if the walls around his heart were finally beginning to break down and she loved what she was seeing, this new side of Tyler.

Jeremiah finished carving the turkey and placed it on Eliza's pretty brown transferware platter and then set it on the kitchen island that had been transformed into a lovely buffet. Everyone oohed and aahed over the wonderful meal as they each prepared their plates.

Once everyone was seated around the table, Eliza stood and asked for everyone's attention. "I'm so happy to have each of you here as our guests on this Thanksgiving Day. Thank you so much for making my life richer for having known each one of you. Now, before our meal gets cold, I would like to say grace and then we will go around the table and tell what it is we're thankful this year."

Eliza sat down and they all grasped hands and she began to pray, "Dear Lord, we thank you for all of the blessings You bestow on us, for the gift of friendships, and for each new day we have here on this Earth. Thank you for this food we are about to eat. May it nourish our bodies as well as our spirits. Amen." And everyone said amen.

Each guest shared from the heart what they were thankful for and there was not hardly a dry eye in the house. Everyone chatted companionably like they had been the best of friends forever. Eliza looked around the table and was overcome with emotion. She looked up to the heavens with a smile and whispered, Thank you, Lord.

Once the guests had left after dessert, Eliza and Tyler washed up all the dishes and put the leftover food away. " Did you enjoy dinner?" Eliza asked. "Yes," he said thoughtfully. "I really did. Everyone was so open and friendly." "I couldn't help but notice that you were pretty open and friendly yourself. I don't think I have ever seen you like that before. It was a really nice change." Eliza said sweetly.

"Well, I am changing. I can't fully describe what is going on, but I think it's a good thing. I hope you think so, too." Tyler said. "So far, I do....very much so." Eliza said with a smile. "You look pretty today. You look pretty everyday. I know I don't tell you enough, but I want you to know that you are beautiful inside and out and I'm so proud to be married to you." Eliza's cheeks blushed a dark rosy pink.

"I love you, Tyler." she said softly, almost a whisper. "I love you, too, darlin'." as he took her in his arms and kissed her forehead.
