Home Remedies

With cold weather and flu season on its way, I thought I would share a few home remedies we have used successfully. We currently do not have health insurance and go to the doctor only as a last resort.

Colds and Flu - take a vinegar bath. Use 1 cup of vinegar to a tub full of bath water. It is said to rid the body of toxins and leave skin soft.

Sinus Problems - take Red Yeast Rice pills. We use Nature's Bounty which can be found at your local pharmacy in the vitamins/supplements aisle.

Ear Ache - warm a little Sweet Oil; add a couple of drops to the ear and then stuff with a cotton ball.

Sore Throat - Mix 1/4 cup of vinegar to 1/4 cup of honey. Take 1 Tbsp. 6 times a day. The vinegar kills the bacteria.

Coughs - Mix 1/4 cup honey to 1/4 cup real lemon juice. Take 1 Tbsp. as often as needed.

These last two remedies we have not tried, but I would be willing to try them before seeing a doctor.

Abscessed Tooth - Tea Tree Oil or Melaleuca Oil - Put a few drops on your toothbrush and brush the affected area. You can also add it to your toothpaste and brush 2-3 times daily. Do not swallow the oils!!

Urinary Tract Infections - Dissolve 2 Alka-Seltzer tablets in a glass of water & drink at the onset of symptoms. It begins eliminating the UTI almost instantly.

My husband is now a firm believer in home remedies. He was having sinus problems when I discovered the benefits of red yeast rice supplement. He takes two tablets after he comes from work, with a meal and is good to go until the next evening. He even told a co-worker about it who was also having sinus problems.

Use your own discretion, of course, when using home remedies or any other medicine. I do not have any medical training, but I do feel obligated to pass on any information that I find to be useful especially in this day and age.

I do not believe doctors have all the answers...that's why they are called practicing physicians. It has been my experience that they push prescription drugs on patients which do not heal them, but only mask the symptoms. They are not getting to the root of the problem.

What did we have before modern medicine? We had herbal remedies from old medicine men or women. There is wisdom in the old ways. We just have to rediscover it and put it to good use.

Hello, I use herbal and home remedies too. (with 6 of us in the home the doctors office is expensive) I have said for years that the doctors are practicing on the patients. Anyway, about the urinary track infection, if you eat yogurt with live & active cultures in it, it should help. It will also help with yeast infections, and it's good to feed to babies since they wear a diaper all of the time. And drinking cranberry juice helps those parts of the body too. Thank you for sharing your info. I'm always looking for alternative ways that work to help heal the body. you take care, Iris
