More Rain and Cold Weather

It is beginning to rain as a thunderstorm moves in. After the storm passes the temperature will start dropping and for the next three days it will be cold. Thankfully, it will warm up for the weekend!

My neighbor gave me three more palm trees yesterday. This weekend I'll go next door to dig up flowers that she wants to get rid of. I never turn down free plants. I can always find a place for beauty in the garden.

Alfred saw a big snake over the weekend in the yard. He wasn't able to tell whether it was a water snake or a water moccasin, but it was about 5 feet long and very fat. It slithered away quickly once it realized it had been spotted. Water moccasins are poisonous so we don't want those. However, the water snakes, while not poisonous, are very aggressive and will try to bite you.

What is it you sprinkle along the property border to keep snakes away - sulphur or lime? Does it hurt other wildlife that may come into contact with it?

The photo at the top of this post was about 7 miles from where i lived, once upon a lifetime ago...
There is nothing i have ever heard of that keeps snakes away.Do you have a lot of standing water in your yard? Black snakes get rid of voles, moles and other ground rodents, they are only aggressive if pestered, but there is an exception to all rules...I am indifferent to snakes, and have had them as pets for 20 years+ there are some wonderful herpetology sites on the web that might help you identify your snake, animal control will get rid of nuisance ones by you, at least they did when i lived in Bama...

We have a creek that runs along the back of our property & it is a woodsy area, too.

Black snakes I don't mind, but the water snakes are a different species. We have moccasins and rattlesnakes in this area, too.

I am scared of snakes, its a toss up between spiders and snakes. We have come across a couple since we have been here. I don't know what you use to keep them away.

Cool! Free palm trees - do you have quite a big back yard to plant them in? I'm not sure what you sprinkle to keep snakes etc away, we don't have that problem here so unfortunately I can't help with that one :-)

Amy, our backyard is a nice size but the front yard is much larger. :)
