Christmas Spirit

"Oh, Christmas isn't just a day, it's a frame of mind..."
~ Kris Kringle from A Miracle on 34th Street

Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year. I love giving gifts to my family and creating wonderful memories with my children. I love the spirit of the season - generosity, wonder, joy, excited anticipation, and love.

I like the thought that Christmas is a frame of mind and it can be Christmas every day in our hearts. Just because the calender says it's no longer Christmas come December 26th, that doesn't mean we can't go forward with the Christmas spirit each and every day.

Each day is a gift to be treasured and should be lived to the fullest. Instead of rushing to and fro to get as much done in our over-scheduled days, try slowing down and be fully present in whatever you are doing at that moment.

Be as generous with yourself as you are with others. This is a big one. We often give, give, give until we have nothing left for ourselves. Take a nap. Get a haircut. Rent a chic flick. Splurge occasionally. Make time to pursue your passion whether it's gardening, crafting, or writing a book.

Rediscover your sense of wonder. The best way I know to do that is to spend time out in nature. Really pay attention to the natural beauty that surrounds you. Let Mother Nature nurture your soul and restore your spirit.

Be a joy-seeker. Don't take anything for granted! Count your blessings. Enjoy the simple things in life - watching a sunrise or sunset, flowers in a mason jar, a picture painted by your child proudly displayed on the fridge, watching your pets romp and play, eating a home-cooked meal with your family gathered around the table.

Let your words and actions reflect love - especially with your family. They often see us at our not so best, but they love us anyway! Speak with kindness. Comfort those in distress. Lend a helping hand. Listen without judging. Be an encourager. Always tell your loved ones how much they mean to you. There is no guarantee of tomorrow. Let love be your guide in all you do!
