Making Home a Haven with Domestic Pursuits - part 5

The kitchen is the heart of a home. We find nourishment for our bodies there, but that's also where some of the best heart-to-heart talks happen between family and guests alike. You want your kitchen to be not only functional and efficient, but pleasing to the eye.
***
Clear your counters as much as you possibly can. Use a pretty crock to hold your cooking utensils. Purchase new dish towels and cloths. Buy or make your own quilted pot-holders. Sew a pretty curtain for the window.

Use a pretty tablecloth and set the table with your best dishes. Check flea markets, yard sales, and thrift shops for dishes. Buy a bouquet of flowers from the market or cut fresh flowers from your own garden - if you have one. Place in a vase or in a pretty jar.

Recover the seats of your chairs with a fabric that matches your decor. Tack lace edging to cabinet and pantry shelves for a feminine touch. Search for a decorative decanter to hold your dish washing liquid. Hang beautiful plates on the wall in a pleasing pattern.

It really doesn't take much to beautify the kitchen area. Cleanliness and simplicity go a long way in making it a cozy spot. Yes, you have to work in the kitchen preparing meals and such, but that's all the more reason for you to make it pretty!
